Charater Profile Format: (post this when you sign up with sections answered, sorry it's arranged funny, but you may want to read my notes section first, because it will give you a little insight into the game's context. If you don't understand some of the context feel free to ask on this thread without posting a character Profile.)
Full Name:
Race: (Suggested human or at the very least race that appears near human. See notes for reason)
Age: (Should be logical)
Gender:
Appearance: (Should include physical build, eye and hair color, usual clothes, positioning of notable equipment you want, and any notable/unusual features that I know your crazy brains are going to come up with.)
Personality: (Quick early statement of how you will probably run your character. How they act ect, because we can't have 5 who are antisocial and we can't have 5 running perfect lives. Generally I see a lot of slight problems that can be used as plot devices.)
Background: (Brief history. Feel free to cause connections with personality and appearance. Should probably include a "How they got to Naost Island" though they can have been born on Naost by all means. Prior proffession. Any problems in the past, major events should be included. I've seen these turn into decent length short stories, but maybe we should wait 'til ingame.)
Primary Weapon: (Medieval, but see notes for quick bit if you'd like to make more of a "spellcaster" type.)
Secondary Weapon: (Most would carry two weapon types, don't want one fine, but they can be useful in numerous situations.)
Cults: (Very optional)
Other: (For whatever you want, also optional)
NOTES:
Quick Rules:
1)"Godmoding"= Taking control of another's character without their permission is strongly discouraged. This includes automatic hits and automatic reactions, don't do it! For the sake of this it includes any character run by myself. You may still control your own Non-Player Characters, ie mounts, ect.
2)Common sense morality is encouraged, keep it PG. If you have a dirty mouthed character use *'s.
3)Characters should be logically powerful, no demigods.
4)There is no rule 4.
5)RP everything that happens to you.
6)I give the situation generally, there will be plenty of space for side character development, and I am leaving my layout very open so if you would like to suggest plot twists ect as we're going along feel free to send me a personal message.
7)In the main RP, all posts are "In Character" (though not necessarily first person). If you want to post there out of character include "OoC:" (out of character) before the out of character section and "BiC:" (Back in Character) before the in character section
Notes on the world:
Location: (Hope these links work for you. I can't see, because I get auto logged in every time I click them.)
World Map Lousy picture, but I never redrew it on Paint. The island you start on is in the center.
Naost IslandHere's the island we start on, your character would know its layout.
->Note that most of it is ocean if you can't tell.
Period:
Time period is bronze age so not truly medieval, weaponry is typically bronze, and iron actually has some magical properties to it if you do find it.
Races:
Trolls (though they are different than most other worlds), elves, dwarves, and various forms of "chaos" tend to be the dominant "non-human" races. However on the island we're beginning on (Naost) they are extremely rare, and even thought of as a myth. Make characters accordingly. (However Newtlings, Halflings, and humanoid ducks are somewhat common on Naost.)
Folk Magic:
In Arcecia magic is not particularly rare. Everyone has the capability to use magic, and as such none of your characters would be too surprised by its existance. However powerful magic is rare. All people can use "Folk magic" which is like a little prayer said to help the crops grow or finish scrubbing the dishes. Not worth considering for combat or campaign purposes.
Rune Magic:
What you can have by sacrificing a primary weapon is the ability to use what's called "Rune Magic". This magic is more powerful, and useful in combat situations. It involves the use of rocks with magical properties known as runes (duh). The rune coresponds to the kind of magic you can use (ie, fire rune = fire magic, ect). You can only have one rune to begin, but I garuntee I'll hide some in some loot eventually for the rest of you.
About the gods:
Above Rune Magic is the relm of "Divine Magic". In Arcecia cults are extremely important to people and everyone knows of a multitude of deities. However usually people worship only the one most important to them/useful to them. You'll probably see many after a little of travel and you can choose the one you want, or choose to start out in a cult if you like. For powerful members of the cults Divine magic becomes available (Priests/Acolytes/Lords of the cult, starting positions are Lay Member and then Initiate). The dominant religion on Naost is the cult of the Sea Lord who is named Naost. (Island is named after him not the other way around) As such these deities are very real on Naost, because they supply a powerful form of spellcasting.
Other Magic:
There are other forms of spellcasting but it is doubtful your characters would know about them at this point.
Message from me:
Yeah, its a little limiting, but really this is meant more as a context to work out of. Ask me if any problems or questions arise, I have a pretty good picture of the world's workings in my head.
I believe many of you can kinda see this as an opportunity to combine all our talents and maybe pull a story out of this, and I say great, fun and purpose, kill two birds with one stone, add an extra comma, and have way too many comma splices. I will be trying to give the whole RP a general direction, but I chose this campaign because I had a general idea and I could leave it wide open for you to essentially lead the RP yourselves. I have in my head a pretty set plot, but victory or defeat really lies on the backs of the players. Any ideas you have for the RP feel free to pop me a PM and I think there's a good chance I'll work them in, as this layout has very little detail to it.
Once we have a good enough group to have a real "party" I'll make a new thread and keep this around for records. The new thread will be dedicated strictly to the game.
