(OoC: So here's the deal - and I'm really sorry about my sudden inability to contribute here for a bit - I'm on vacation right now, with pretty shaky internet access, since I'm out spending time with my family most of the time. I'll be back and able to write Mura again on Tuesday of next week [the 26th]. I'd write now, but it's late, and I'm sleeping in my older brother's living room, which means I'm getting up at 6:30 or 7 a.m. with my niece, so I don't really have time to read all that's been written since I was here last and write more... So, after that rather long-winded explanation, I'll just let you all bring Mura along for the ride until the 26th. At that point, I'll be able to jump in again. Sorry for not warning you earlier.)

(OoC: Okay I suppose. Lets go then)
The lizard creatures raised their heads as they sniffed the air a little more. They were not normally scavengers, but they knew enough to take an easy meal when it presented itself, and nothing was easier than pre-dead. Moments later two more lizard heads poked out from the cave, but at the same time two of the originals rushed the group. They attacked like oversized dogs, ramming into their target's shields and trying to push their heads past to bite at the target behind. Rynak and Liam held their ground but only just barely. They swung back at the creatures, but unable to get in a decent striking postion while holding their ground could only deal glancing blows.
Meanwhile the lizard that had camoflauged itself on the wall jumped off and over the two soldiers at the front. This lizard swung with one the claws on his right side as it fell towards Adrian. It was trying to slash him and then land on him, allowing it to maul at will.
(OoC: Up to Genesis if/what the lizard connects with and whatnot. )

Apparently the stench of formaldehyde wasn't going to dissuade the predators. As the beasts assaulted the guards, Adrian swirled his robe around him and cast his next spell, and not a moment to soon. Another beast flung itself from its perch. Adrian dove to the side, while a shadowy counterpart dove the opposite direction. As he struggled to retain his feet, he drew his hammer, and faced the crow's beak side at the ready. He could only fool the creature for so long with magic tricks, but nevertheless another was already forming on his lips... hopefully one that would buy them some time to escape, or steal into the caves.

The lizard attacking Adrian was completely baffled. The fleshy thing had been there just a second ago, and what's more he'd only been in one place, and now he was in two places. On the one claw that meant more food, but on the other it meant he was in the middle of a group of enemies. The lizard didn't hesitate much, it immediately lunged towards the shadow Adrian, and bit at its neck while clawing across its midsection.
Meanwhile Rynak and Liam weren't having much luck, They were still pressed up against the charging lizards, and while they weren't nearly as strong as a horse, they were about a match for a human. As long as they were pressing against the shields Rynak and Liam could not manuever their weapons to land any solid hits, but the two soldiers held the front line firmly. Meanwhile the two latest lizard arrivals began sneaking around behind their two engaged comrades, looking for an opening. Rynak and Liam tried desperately to keep the pressing lizards between themselves and the final two, but it was only a matter of time before the back two made an attempt to overwhelm someone.
"Someone kill one of the beasts for the gods sake!" Rynak shouted above the noise of lizards clawing and scratching against metal shields.

(ooc: Mura, help me kill monsters, haha!)
The beast obliterated the illusion, but Adrian had already be gun his next song, which grew into a shriek. a cloud of small, screeching firey explosions erupted his sleeves. He drove this cloud into the two behind rynak and Liam. It swarmed the animal's heads like a swarm of blazing bees, violently throwing themselves into every orifice (mouth, eyes, ears, nostrils, ect.) and remaining there, following thier every movement. Little direction was now needed, although continued concentration was neccessary to sustain the hive. He considered sending out another cloud of explosions in front of Rynak and Liam, but ultimately decided that it would blind them as well. Keeping his periphrials on the hive he turned to his copy, and uttered syllables to make it's cloak unearthly large, and wrapped the dense shadows around the creature.
(ooc: I don't like him being this powerful to be honest. not such a multi-tasker anyway)

(OoC: So there are five, correct?)
Wren crouched behind a small hillock, only yards away from the fighting. He'd nearly been paralyzed by fear when the beasts showed themselves, but he now realized that they could be defeated, as evidenced by Adrian's clever spells. The one lone lizard seemed to be taken care of for now with the shadow-copy, but Rynak and Liam fighting four at once couldn't end well.
Then he saw his chance- Adrian had conjured an enchantment of explosions to distract the two sneaking up on the soldiers from the back.
Trying to silence the doubts and fear, Wren sprang up and charged toward the two lizards in front of Rynak. With only a knife, he couldn't actually defeat either... but the monsters didn't know that. With the added diverson, hopefully the soldiers would be able to go on the offensive.
As he ran, Wren reached into a pouch on his belt for the hunting knife, but encountered the rune-stone instead. He nearly put it back, but hesitated. He couldn't really fight these things, could he? After all, he was a simple farm boy, far from home and farther from any leads on how to get back.
The despair quickly changed into anger; this group was the only real chance of Wren returning home. Every sparring match with the guards, the frustrating visit to the capitol, and his own disgust at failing to help in the battle at the docks seemed to swirl into one single emotion. And now these things, these lizards were going to kill his friends, and keep ravaging the homes of others?
Not this time. Barely knowing what he was doing, Wren raised the stone above his head, still running at the monsters. The familiar heat had returned; suddenly, a brilliant stream of white and orange fire leaped in an arc from the rune, connecting with one of the beasts smack between its eyes.
It swung its head around, staring straight at Wren as he realized that the rune had worked, better than he'd imagined. Too well, in fact.

OoC: Yep 5
Rock lizards are curious animals, not necessarily animals and not necessarily magical creatures. Their scales are hard, and pretty resistant to most natural phenomena, encluding fire. But they certainly weren't fireproof, and a fireball to the forehead was still plenty effective.
Rynak and Liam were relieved to have the two rock lizards backing off as the firebugs attacked the lizards. The two lizards retreated towards the cave entrance, swatting at the swarm. There they remained thrashing as the next two began circling Rynak and Liam. That is until one of them took a fireball to the forehead.
At first Liam thought the lizard had simply shrugged it off, but then he noticed that the beasts eyes were starting to trend away from him as though the lizard was lost. Seeing an opportunity Liam planted a mace into the top of the skull of the lizard, killing it instantly.
Now it was down to one, but it wasn't about to go down without a fight. It fell back a little to nearer the cave mouth and stood sideways to the group. It lashed out with a large tail as Rynak got close, as though saying, "You'll regret trying to fight me." The attack also would be more complicated by the two other rock lizards swiping randomly to either flank of the remaining lizard.
