It was a small town- as far as Wren was concerned, so much the better. After the fighting in the port, and the messy business in Nia, he was relieved to see that the place their group would rest in was more quiet.
He walked along the left road, musing over the different buildings and rubbing his sore shoulder. He was probably getting better at swordfighting, but Liam had defeated him every time they fought. Wren grinned at the memory of the commander's fake death.
Seeing the blacksmith's shop, he instinctively felt for the stone he carried in his pocket. Would he know anything?
Only one way to find out. Hesitantly, Wren opened the door and stepped in.

(OoC: Honestly I have nothing new for all of your cliffhangers. Go ahead and talk to someone if you'd like, the townspeople keep mostly to themselves, though they'll give you a look, they don't get many visitors. I think I'll run them if you head into a shop.) BiC: The inn door opened to a wide open first floor. Directly in front of the door was the main bar where the innkeeper stood, but to the left and right were various tables that held a dozen or so people. A stairway at the backwall led to the upstairs rooms, and another doorway on the back wall appeared to lead to a kitchen if you could call it that. Regardless Rynak and Liam walked up to the innkeeper who immediately reached into a drawer on the bar and withdrew a couple of keys. "Room for the night travelers?" He asked casually. "We're actually going to need three rooms for the night please. The rest of the party will be by later." Rynak responded, and after a short exchange of coin and keys Rynak and Liam sat at a table near the corner of the inn. While they were still wearing rather official looking uniforms, it was impossible not to notice the looks they were attracting. Not that Rynak was particularily worried, but he was beginning to suspect that the King didn't send out many guard patrols in this direction.

(OoC: I planned to have Wren talk to the blacksmith, but not really find out anything new about the rune; I just hadn't gotten around to it yet. But if you wanna run the shop owners, I think that might work better. I'm modifying the last post so Wren actually goes in the building.)

(OoC: Well I suppose you could run him, but that ruins half the fun for me. ) At the back of the shop the blacksmith pounded the last shoe on one of the local farmer's horses. The overgrown donkey had thrown a heck of a fit for no apparent reason and he was perfectly glad to be done with the thing. As he moved to set down his tools the front door to his shop opened and someone stepped in. He continued putting his tools back to their rightful places as he headed towards the visitor. He did not stop while he said, "Evening, just a minute while I finish cleaning up. How can I help you?"

Mura had only taken a few steps when Adrian spoke to her.
"Mind if I just follow you? I don't necessarily like the stares I'm getting from these people."
She paused. "That's fine. I thought I might ask someone if there's any good hunting around here. It would be nice to have some company."

The smith seemed nice enough, but for some reason, Wren still felt unsure. "I was wondering if you could tell me what kind of stone this is," he said, his voice cracking like it always did when he was nervous.
He quickly drew the stone from his pocket before he could change his mind. Resting in his hand, it seemed normal- but the memory of its burning heat a while ago made up his mind. He set the rock on a shelf jutting out at about shoulder height between himself and the shopkeeper. "It's from one of the far islands... northern, I think." Wren didn't want to outright lie, but neither did he want to reveal his entire story.

The blacksmith took an initial look at the rock, but only confusion crossed his face initially. Unable to determine the variety of rock from a single glance he picked up the rock and held it up to his eyes. He squinted and turned the rock around a few times. It wasn't any mineral he was familiar with which was unusual, but not unheard of.
He was going to inform the visitor that unfortunately he could not help, but then his fingers rolled across an unusual set of grooves in the rock. He moved the rock away from his vision and he began to see the marking clearly. Slightly worn away by time, but you could never wear a runic mark completely away. "Well aren't you lucky." The blacksmith remarked as he began rubbing at the rock a little to try and remove some of the dirt on it.
"This is a rune." The blacksmith placed the rock back on the table with the mark upwards so it was visible. "According to legend these are made from the blood of the gods. Now I'm not sure which rune you have, but there are many different varieties, but you can always tell a rune by the prescence of the marking, see." The blacksmith indicated the marking, it was worn down, but surprisingly simple. This rune was made up of a circle with a dot at the center of it.
"Runes are rare items traveler, I'd suggest keeping that one close. With the correct training you may even be able to use that rune to perform powerful magic."

Adrian gave a little half smile, and mentally forced himself to not pull up his hood or play with his flute as he usually did when he was uncomfortable. As they went he heard a fuss in a little alley. Turning his head to investigate, he saw a dog whipping a cat around in its mouth. He shuddered. The dog tore it's leg off and ran off with it. Adrian, for no apparent reason, just on impulse, went to the corpse. He crouched down and put one hand on the creature and murmured softly, awakening the spirit. It was barely visible, seeping out of the blood and body, barely noticeable like a wisp of smoke, but he kept murmuring his little song (most of his peers would chant, but he always felt it was easier to incorporate music with the incantation and motion), and watched it gather into a vaguely feline shape. It circled around as if confused for several moments be fore it ran off. Adrian had a distinct feeling as to where it was going: to its offspring.
(ooc: Oracle, I'd really like to know how to use your style of magic, otherwise I'm gonna be adding my own flair.)

A rune. Wren knew it was special, maybe even important, but this was unexpected. He counted himself lucky that the blacksmith had been honest- others might have lied, or tried to take the rune for themselves.
'...I'd suggest keeping that one close.' Wren listened intently to his words. I guess it's good that I didn't tell anyone else. Not yet, anyway.
Taking the rune back, he was about to walk out when he remembered to pay. He fished around in his pack for some of the money he'd received working in Iah, asking, "How much would that be?"
(OoC: I have no idea if Wren should be paying the blacksmith or not... If he doesn't need to, I'll probably change it so he just thanks him and leaves.)

(OoC: Genesis: Alrighty some mechanics... For what you just did I can think of three ways: As its described fits perfectly with what I would call "folk magic", but there are shammanic magics wandering around the world on rare occassions and specifically I would call that "spirit magic" which would be the ability to communicate with spirits and enter combat with them, I can describe in more detail if you like. Thirdly you could get stronger "spirit magic" from having a spirit rune (like Wren has a fire rune).
Now the more common magic in the world would be Rune Magic. This comes from the runes. Basically there's a source of energy of a certain type inside each rune, and a person can act as a channel to use that power. In the original you had to learn specific spells to know how to use the runes, but I think it would be better for our purposes to have those spells, but still make the power accessible. So if you had a rune you could tap into the power of the rune, but you might have trouble manipulating it to do what you wanted to do without practice. Someone unpracticed could try to use a fire rune to put out a campfire and accidentally start a nearby tree on fire.
Spectre: Don't worry about it, no should or shouldn't in this case. I think it fits the character to ask.)
BiC:
"Information is free stranger." The blacksmith responded holding a hand up to get Wren to put his money away. "I only charge for making things. Now if you'd like to buy something then I could happily take your money."
((OoC:
Crazy idea, what if we like planned to do this at some time so we were all on at the same time? Would that be preferable or do we like the leisurely coming in and out better?))

"No, that's all." Wren pocketed the rune. "Thank you, sir."
Leaving the shop, he felt a sudden sense of being overwhelmed. Here he was- a simple farm boy- traveling across the world, chasing down criminals, and now learning that he carried a magic artifact. What am I doing? I should be trying to find a way back home, to my parents...
Wren blocked out the thought, remembering that this was his best opportunity of getting back. He instead began to focus on the smith's advice. Proper training, huh?
From who?
For some reason, the image of that strange bard appeared in his thoughts. Adrian... can I trust him? Will he even know anything about runes?
He looked up and down the wide street. No one from the group was in sight, but he'd have a chance to talk later, when they met at the inn.
(OoC: I'm okay with how we're doing it now. Organizing a time sounds like it could work, but from what I know, everyone seems really busy this summer.)

(OOc: That'd be sick Oracle, but Spectre's right. We're all on different schedules. Spectre, Adrian knows the basics. He has one. 'Bout time he gets something to do besides play with his flute.)

(OoC: Just a thought to put in our minds perhaps for the future.
Anywho we're down to Genesis and Saphire, if you guys want to do something separately we can dawdle for a while. Otherwise I've got the outline of a questy thing ready to go.)

(OoC: It would be great if we were all on at the same time, but I agree that it would be tough to organize. We could try, I suppose.
I'm good with either way. I didn't really have a plan... Feeling like I need to give Mura something more to do, anyway. If you need me to send her somewhere specific, just let me know.
Also: I have no idea how the magic that Adrian just did works... Should Mura be able to see the cat's spirit?)
