One of the hardest things to deal with as a writer is writers' block... Fortunately, I know how to get through it relatively painlessly. Before I say what it is, I must explain something: while this method may seem childish, it works very well. Anyway, children often have the best imaginations... We writers could learn from them.
So, here's my method. Act it out. Pretend that YOU are the character. Go into your room, or somewhere you can be private, and get into the scene. If props or dressing as the character help you, do so. Act like you're in the story, having the conversation or fighting in the battle. Who cares if you look stupid? No one can see you! No one will know if you don't tell them. It really helps. Conversations flow more naturally if you're actually having them, rather than just writing them down. Fight scenes seem to come to life if you know every move before you put it on paper.
I've talked with many people about this, and they all agree it works. If you struggle with writers' block, try it out!

Cool I'm gonna have to give it a go. I've hit a snag on a novel I'm writing, and that seems like it just might be what the doc ordered. Thanks

Also, I've found that if you just take a break from your book, and write a short story or something. It can really help. So when you come back to your novel, you're not so overwhelmed.
Yes, I talk to my characters a lot. They push me around too.

Lol. My characters tell me exactly what they want to happen to them. If I don't like it, too bad.
I've written short stories to get rid of writers' block, too. You're right - it helps a lot. And you can get a pretty cool short story out of the bargain.

yeah, whenever I'm writing in Brendon Urie's POV in a fanfic, I ALWAYS put on one of my dad's old tophats xD I look like a complete dork, and sometimes my friend is there and she is like "WTF?". I say "I'm pretending I'm Brendon!" and she totally gets it
