I need some advice... And I'm really hoping someone reads this soon. I'm applying to colleges this year. I'm nervous enough about it as it is... And I have to compile a writing portfolio for one of the schools I'm applying to, Pratt Institute in New York City. It has to be ten pages or less, and it must include an analytical essay and several examples of my writing. The problem is, I don't know what to put in! The essay is not a problem - I'll put in one of my best essays from the school year. The issue is this: which stories should I take excerpts from, and which excerpts should I put in? I really could use some advice on this... So here's what I'd like people to do: Read my writing and tell me what to put in! Lol. I'm thinking about putting in two poems, A Dove and Without You. They can be read in the poetry section. Please give me your opinions on this. Also, I have stories posted in the Short Stories and Novels sections. I'd appreciate it if you would read those and give me ideas on what to put in. I also plan to post more of my writing soon, so those could be read as well, if you will. Thanks!

Hey I read A Dove and I thought it was absolutely FABULOUS!! You should DEFINITELY put that in your portfolio. It is REALLY good. I'll go read Without You and some of your short stories soon. I know you'll make a wonderful portfolio whatever it is that you chose to put in it.

I really like Without You, but I think you should write many more poems. So you have a wide selection to choose from. Because sometimes you can't find THE story to send in. Therefore, write one.

Lol. I can't exactly just write a new story. If I try to do that, it will come out sounding forced. Anyway, I have no inspiration to write lately. Anything I write now will suck. Thanks, Endovia! I appreciate it.

lol, I know how you feel. Sometimes it's hard to just write something up. Sometimes listening to music helps for inspiration. Like the lyrics of a sad song, and I thing "What happened to the writer? Why is she sad? Was it because of blah blah blah..." And eventually I have a story.

That sounds like an awesome way to get an idea for a story, Beauty. I sometimes listen to music while I write but I don't really pay much attention to the lyrics while writing. It's just sorta there. Lol.

It depends what I'm writing mostly. Like I always have it as background noise. But if Im really am stuck I'll actually put some thoughts into the lyrics.

Lol. Songs inspire me a lot, too... But what does even more is movies. I watch a scene that's particularly depressing (lol) and think about it for a while. I come up with a new character to place in that situation, then alter the situation so I'm not copying. Then I add a plot around it... That's how I came up with the idea for Silence. And Kin of Dragons... And most of my stories, come to think of it.

That's interesting. I'll make sure to stay awake for the whole film next time I watch something.
