Gasp! Puppies! They're adorable. I honestly don't even remember taking the ACT. Like I said, I just have the before and after memories. During is all a blur. Science is always the section I don't finish on standardized tests, though... Looking at all the graphs and such and then answering the questions just seems to take longer than the other sections. I've toyed with the idea of emailing them, reminding them that we're here... But I'm not sure I should. I can see everyone's email addresses, being a "moderator," but actually using them is another matter.

Lol, Genesis. *hugs* Haha, thanks! Yeah, and I feel like the science is kinda pointless. I mean, we're in high school I think we can read graphs. I like how they say 5 minutes left, because then I have a chance to guess on the rest of the problems. Hmm, they might like a reminder. You know how some sign-up sites are like "You haven't logged in for (whatever length of time). We have new improvements...." blah blah, kinda thing? Then it's not a pressured thing. (Come back or die!) But a friendly poke. (Hey, we miss you!)

Yeah, we kinda did... Peppers was never as dedicated a member, though. She didn't last very long. The others were here for months before they vanished. Maybe I will email them...
I agree with you about the science, Endovia. If a high school student can't read a graph, they probably have bigger issues than not doing well on a standardized test. The science sections should ask questions that are actually about science, not about graphs and "studies."

Yes! I hate the studies, and then you have multiple students' cases to look at. Very annoying. Especially when one of the student's case's makes no sense at all. I think we can make exceptions, Genesis.

I know... They throw these "studies" at us and expect us to analyze them or something, and the information isn't important in any way... And probably not correct, either. What do they think they're teaching us, exactly?
Heh... We all have issues, Genesis. I think it's part of being a writer.

I don't think even half of the science stuff is correct. It's just an unnecessary section, like history, because we all do different classes and at different times. It's annoying when there's science you're not familiar with (or forgot ) because you're trying to wrap your head around the new material while also trying to figure out what E subscript whatever P something formula means. First, I don't think they do think. Second, if they do think, then they have messed up brains. Third, well, they should let students eliminate-erm run, the ACT.

Heh, there we go. Let's have students decide what questions will be on the ACT. Or they could just streamline education more, but that would also give students less choice in what to take, which I don't think would be a good thing, either. Why force someone to take chemistry if they're more interested in biology? (Of course, I think most have to take both anyway, so that might be a bad example, but still.)

Mmm, I loved dissecting a pig. That was so much fun. I agree, Sapphire, I don't think streamlining would be great because that'd limit choices, which I'm already frustrated about because I don't have room to take art, journalism, or any fun or useful classes (because I might actually use them in the career I want) since there's all these required classes. I think the entire educational system should be removed. (Yay! No school! XD) Or have a major facelift, because, seriously, it's face is plain ugly right now. We should actually learn not memorize dates, this that, 'facts', which are really their (teachers, adults, previous generations) point of view, bias, and/or opinion on what happened or how something should be. So, how's the world improved with the young being brainwashed again and again into thinking the way old society wants them to when it has shown that that thought process does not work? Great question, nadda. That's why history classes are so ridiculous. Sure it was awful that so and so came into power, that there were these wars here and there and, well, everywhere, but do we learn that huh maybe we shouldn't slaughter people for absolutely no reason except greed? No, we just learn it was bad, bad bad, don't do. Uhuh, yet again we still have wars, people starving, people suffering, manipulated media, federal reserve, not to mention what we do to animals. Yeah, great jobs schools for 'teaching' us history; we're still repeating it. Admittedly, not every school is like this, but unfortunately the majority are. Oh my, I kinda ranted there. Well...I think I'm done.

I agree with you, Endovia. The school system just... doesn't really work. I mean, sure, people learn some things, but not as much as we could. That's why I like college so much. I'm really learning things, not just memorizing them and forgetting again, and I have a whole lot more choice in which classes I take. True, there are required classes, but even most of those are really interesting, and I'm finding more and more ways to apply them to my major. I'm learning to do what I want to do for the rest of my life, which is amazing.
I almost wish we had something like the European system (or some places in Europe, or something - I'm not sure exactly how widespread it is), where they take fewer years of general schooling before they move into studying a specific thing. I'd have loved to start studying writing earlier - because honestly, high school did almost nothing for me (aside from a couple of really great teachers) in developing my writing.
That said, I hated biology... Dissecting dead animals is not my thing. *shudder*

I can't wait to go to college. High school is so completely lacking and draining. I feel like I'm wasting my time, which I am really.
Yes, that would be amazing. But you know why they don't do that? Because the 'education system' is really just a 'business system'. It's the same with the medical system. They never cure the problem, just put a band aid and maybe shove some pills and then more pills to help with the side effects of the previous pills and then more drugs because those pills don't totally fix it. More pills + More drugs = More $$$
Ah, dissection isn't for everyone. I quite enjoyed because I got to see the real thing, not just pictures and diagrams in a book.

HAHA! Ya know what's great about the european system? It's toatally streamlined. You have very little choice in what to take, but for the sake of politics I go no further. As for as I'm concerned, the WI ed system kicks Germany's ass.
Ideally, I do beleive that schools should be run more like businesses: there'd be competition between them to get students, the good teachers (I appreciate teacher unions, but sometimes they're ridiculous), pricing, curriculum, specialty courses, all that good stuff. As long as the government keeps a slight hand in it to make sure things stay steady.
I ain't the biggest fan of high school curriculum myself, but it certainly develops a work ethic. If you make yourself do what you despise, how much better work will you do on the things that you love. Personally, I am a strong believer in the use of detailed history with minimal bias. If history is properly applied, society can learn from it, an can recognize that it's about to repeat itself. That's why I like it so much... the face value is nothing. It's the nitpicky crap that makes it useful. For me going into politics, music, and/or journalism, history is crucial. My rant not done, but...
Personally I don't like dissecting things in class... the specimen always seems to be dead when they give it to you.

Yeah, well... That's why I said that I "almost" wish we were more like the European system. I do like the freedom to choose. The thing with education is that you can't force people to apply themselves. I think that's really the issue. No matter what system you use, some students will be successful and others won't. Those who are really motivated to do well so that they can go to college and choose what to study will get there. The rest won't. As for the high school curriculum helping students to develop a work ethic... I agree with you, Genesis, but I think it only really works for people who care about education. Those who don't will just slack off in classes they don't like and end up barely passing or failing. It's too bad that people don't just like learning. That would fix the education system.
