So as it turns out most of my forum experience have been with various RP boards, and I've attempted to run several before, and well I just noticed you have a nice board for it, but not too many posts in it. I wanted to see if I could change that by bringing in one of my RPs, but first I'd like to kinda poll everyone to find out what kinda RP they like.
I kinda get the feeling Fantasy RPs will be fairly well received (good because that's the only one I know how to run).
The important question though is the structure of the RP, and I've seen three variations on this:
Loose RP: No specific system, relies on the honor system and a sort of loosely defined limits on power/skill ect. Advantages: Sometimes less complex, may work well on an all writers site. Disadvantages: Has a tendency to go into a sort of "characters get a charmed life" because the player decides whether they were hit or not. (Blind luck sometimes becomes very common with new RPers in this mode) More describing required by players.
Structured RP: Skills, powers ect are given a general numbering system that helps determine when such and such succeeds ect. Characters can still do essentially whatever they want due to skills being loosely defined. Advantages: Concrete measure of character's skills, no doubt about this that or the other thing, advancement of characters more obvious, less need for description. Disadvantages: Tends to be a little more work, and complex looking until you get used to the system. A good writer is needed to make a character made of numbers "come alive"
Mixed RP: Usually involves giving some general numbers as a "rough guideline" of character skills. The numbers are not used to determine success/fail like in Structured though.
Anyways tell me what sounds good and I think I may try to put together an RP for you.
